I am a third generation educator - my grandparents, parents and siblings (as well as wife and in-laws) all work or worked as educators. I am a former Fulbright Scholar (PAD - Germany - 1996/97) and speak German and Spanish. I am a former member of Yosemite Search and Rescue and represented the U.S. Antarctic Program in the Joint Antarctic Search And Rescue Team.

I love to paddle board, especially upstream on the Merced River, and I totally enjoy playing a novice-level tennis game. Gravel-grinding is a favorite bicycle workout.
