SP Parker is originally from New Zealand but has been living in the Bishop area of California since 1980 and after guiding now for over 25 year he thinks he is starting to understand a few things about it.
He became involved in the AMGA back when it was the APMGA in the mid 1980s. At that time he was working for the American Alpine Institute and with Eric Craig, Mark Houston, Alan Jolley and others ran the first Rock II exam in Eldorado Canyon. He was then involved with Mark Houston in running the first Alpine exam on Mt Baker. He served as writer of the first AMGA guides manual and has been a part of the Technical Committee since its inception.
