Early in his guiding career, prior to his AMGA training, Mark regularly guided up to six clients at a time up multi-pitch rock routes, dealing with rope management issues that he hopes never to encounter again. He could have used a mentor back then.
Now as an instructor and examiner in the rock program, Mark takes a genuine interest in the success of each and every one of his students. Although he guides in the ice, alpine and expeditionary realms, rock guiding remains his favorite work assignment, and working for the AMGA is something he truly enjoys. Meeting new friends is the best part of the job.
